My public service announcement

Man, I am such a sucker. I told myself over and over again that I was never to go to my blog over here. Welp, here I am.

So, is there some sort of rule about how one gets started over here? I guess I will just jump in with the first thing that is on my mind at the moment.

I used to be sure that most parents, and hopefully most of the general public as well, were aware of car seat laws. A baby needs to be in a rear facing car seat until they are ONE year old or twenty pounds.... whichever comes LAST! I cannot not wrap my head around the fact that some parents either choose to ignore this LAW or just don't know any better.

I spend hours on the computer doing research on what is best for my daughter. My 22 pound, 13 month old daughter is still in her rear facing carseat because it is safest. Convienient, not so much! She doesn't love to face the back of the car, but you know what... I do what I gotta do to protect my daughter.

What brings this rant to the front of my mind tonight? Dannilynn... yep, the baby of Anna Nicole Smith. I saw her "Turning one" segment on the TV tonight and the first thing I notice, not only is she very incorrectly positioned into her carseat but she is also forward facing. It just drives me crazy. Turning your baby around in their carseat in not this fun rite of passage. It is soemthing that should be put off until it is no longer avoidable.

Please, think about the safety of your kid! I was reading some comments online about switching your baby to forward facing and I was dumbfounded by the lack of education some of these mothers have in regards to carseat laws. More woman than I can count have said, "As soon as a baby hits 20 pounds they have to turn forward"

Seriously...? Who teaches you this stuff. Where are you learning things like this? Maybe it would be helpful to do a little bit of research before you put the life of your child on the line.

So here is my public service announcement for the night!

Your baby needs to remain in the rear facing position until they are at least one year old or 20 pounds... WHICHEVER COMES LAST.... LAST!!!

The longer a child can remain in the rear facing position the better. A baby with a broken leg is alway better than a baby with a broken neck.

Please keep those babies safe!
